My wife and I have become pretty good at entertaining, at least that is what we hear. We like to cook for others, have them over to visit and so forth. There typically includes a beverage of some sort. Sometimes I make cocktails, sometimes I serve beer, almost always have some wine around.
So this past week when we were putting together an Open House for my son Austin, who recently graduated from high school, I thought it was time to have a beverage that appealed to many on a beautiful late spring day, Ginger Creek Bourbon “Punch.”
I don’t know what else to call it, except a punch. I suppose you could put all the ingredients over sun tea and it would be fab, and you could call it “Ginger Creek Bourbon Iced Tea.” Yum.
Why “Creek” in the name? Not really sure except it sounds cool and I think there is a bourbon with a “ginger creek” or something in its name.
For us, we wanted to do a whiskey punch that was slightly sweet, easy to sip, and I could make a lot of it at once and not worry about it until it was gone.
Here is what we did and note that there are many things you could add to this to make it your own (basil, fresh mint, more fruit, less fruit, iced tea, lemonade, and more).
Ginger Creek Bourbon Punch
6 oz bourbon
4 oz water
3 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 oz ginger liquer
2 oz simply syrup
6 dashes orange bitters (preferably Blacksmith Trading)
Mix together and serve as a pitcher for your next brunch!
Optional add ins – peaches (fresh or jarred), iced tea, etc.
