Lake Joy Farmstead is now an Alumi-Coop Dealer!

We are excited to be a dealer for the Alumi-Coops, made by Superior Poultry Products in LaGrange, IN.  Our territory covers the Seattle area north to the Canadian border and south to Oregon and east to the Idaho border.

We decided to switch to the Alumi-Coops after meeting Bud at the Modern Homesteading conference this past summer in Coeur d’Alene. We had a blast meeting so many great people and learned so much but the big takeaway was that we needed to improve our layer program and pastured poultry program because of two reasons primarily. First, we were losing birds to aerial predators and second, our wet climate in the PNW wreaked havoc on our wooden chicken tractors we had used prior. It seemed like every few months, pieces of the wood framing would rot either from rainfall (yes we painted) or the wet grassy mud we were dragging the tractors through.  Lately we have had ravens come into our henhouse (the little door that they enter and exit) and grab our eggs!  Are you kidding me??

It is true that if you have some carpentry skills and maybe $5-700 you can probably build one yourself. Our friends on the YouTube of course will show the ones they built, fix, and continue to upgrade.  Some will let you have their plans!  We have tried those and they DO WORK, but don’t seem to last that long without major repairs and/or upgrades.  We needed something light but super strong and durable so when we connected with Bud at the conference, we were convinced this was probably going to be the last upgrade we needed to make, not only for our own chickens that we eat (and their eggs) but also as we sell pastured poultry within our community.

We currently use the 5×6 as well as the 6×10 here on our farm and look forward to sharing the story with you.

The official pitch – Pastured Poultry Solutions for Broilers, Layers, Turkeys, & Ducks. Our Alumi-Coops allow more freedom for your animals while removing them from yesterday’s waste. Clean eggs, healthier animals, and simple maintenance are a few advantages of using an Alumi-Coop for your animals. Start your homesteading journey with a USA Built Alumi-Coop.

The philosophy behind the sale of these great coops is pretty straightforward. There are NO ONLINE sales available. The manufacturer wants us dealers to build relationship, have a dialog on the phone or in person, so that the customer can make a well informed decision.  My wife and I like it this way so we think we are a great fit.

There are a lot of great videos on YouTube about them in action. We will have some shortly as well!
